Science is increasingly confirming what our hearts have always known: that all Nature is interconnected, although those connections may be so subtle as to be imperceptible to the average person. Like the “Butterfly Effect”, in which the wing beats of a butterfly in one hemisphere contribute to the formation of a storm in another, our simplest actions impact Mother Earth. Our ancient Ancestors lived in balance with the natural world, recognizing the sacred and inspirited nature of all Creation, a concept we refer to as Animism. When we regard all things as enspirited, as Beings, it becomes harder to discount our impact on them or to privilege our own wants and desires above their needs.
It is now widely understood that in addition to nerves, the lymph system, and the circulatory system, the human body possesses subtle energy channels called meridians that convey vital life force and impact health and wellness. These flows and circuits of energy can be manipulated and brought into optimal relationship through techniques such as acupressure and acupuncture. The sacred art of Geomancy deals with similar concepts in the natural world. Mother Earth has her own energy meridians, referred to as Ley lines, and the natural flow of vital energies along such conduits can be damaged or interrupted through human action in the form of road building, pipelines, and other sorts of construction. These activities can also impact aquifers and interfere with water courses. Our actions also impact the balance of natural environments when we deforest, spray pesticides and introduce non-Native species.
As a Northern Tradition shaman, I assist my clients with issues of personal and land wellness, making use of the art of Geomancy to specifically address human relationship with the “Spirit of Place” or landvaettir.
Negative earth energies can impact wellness and may be addressed through the equivalent of acupuncture. This process, referred to as “staking”, helps to divert problematic energies. At the same time, positive energies can be given focus and even amplified through right placement of focal stones, sacred spaces, and other structures. Dowsing, whether done using the traditional “Y-branch”, L-Rods, pendulums, or other tools, allows the Geomancy practitioner to accurately guide the placement of such fixing or amplifying structures. Through skilled intuitive assessment of a tract of land, I guide my clients in the steps they can take to enhance the wellness of the environment they steward, bringing human endeavors into optimal relationship with the land in ways that are beneficial to all.
